Established in 1979 as a “mom and pop” shop, RIVA Motorsports has since grown into a leading personal watercraft performance parts and accessories dealer with five buildings offering sales, parts, and services for all of the leading watercraft brands such as Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Honda, and many more. Located in Pompano Beach, Florida, RIVA started from humble beginnings, selling mopeds and motorscooters. After a steady evolution and massive growth, RIVA now offers everything from fishing boats to waverunners to motorcycles.
We sat down with Matt Sermarini, the VP of Sales and Marketing for RIVA to discuss the details of the mega-store and how the market has shaped their buying decisions and what the most popular brands are today.

Do you have an online store?
Yes, we offer our own line of Riva Racing Performance Parts for Personal Watercraft, we are a distributor/dealer for several other watercraft parts manufacturers & we offer OE and aftermarket parts for all powersports products, including on-line parts diagrams.

What has been the single best-selling brand over the past six months?
Who are the top three reps that service your store and what makes them special?
All of them, we have a great relationship with all of our manufacturer’s DSMs and our parts reps. I would hate to single out just three.
What is your overall impression of the local market over the past six months?
Unpredictable, we were expecting growth for 2013 and saw a slight dip. It seems that people are still a little cautious with their money.
Overall expectations for your business over the next 6-12 months?
Flat to slight growth
Is your shop altering the way you buy for 2014?
If yes, how are you altering your buying ?
Keeping control of inventory, watching quantities, and control flooring expenses.
What are some things brands are doing to work with your shop?
We have been working with Tucker Rocky thru their VMI program. We are a PRO Yamaha dealer which has helped with store improvements. Companies like Oakley, Fox, Go-Pro, etc are always good for in-store showcases and displays. We always take advantage of manufactures’ close outs and specials.
