Headphones are fast becoming the newest must-have accessory, and Roxy has taken note. The company recently partnered with JBL Home Audio to create a new line of head speakers. Roxy, Swim & Accessories Sales Manager Pam Levine tells us about their recent partnership.

Roxy is new to the headphone game - what should we expect from your initial line?

The trend you can expect to see in 2010 in regards to CE products targeted at women is the blending of high fashion design with cutting edge technology.

For the Roxy/JBL headphone line, style meets sound with a product line that perfectly blends Roxy’s signature style with JBL’s legendary sound. Additionally, these headphones were made specifically for females: The ear piece is smaller in shape and lined with soft velvet rather than leather for more comfort and not to pull on hair. The head strap was designed as an accessory akin to a headband rather than for pure function.

Why did you decide to launch a headphone line with JBL?

Roxy has always been at the forefront of the hottest trends and JBL, a well-known player in the music industry, has revolutionized music from inside the studio to concerts to our homes. Developing a partnership that capitalized on both brands’ cache in style and music technology was critical and our greatest success for 2009 is to see this partnership come to life with our introductory line of earphones that suits all styles and budgets.

What are your projections for the line?

Music is an important driver for most women; however with the compression of music and saturation in the headphone market, the quality of sound seems to have fallen by the wayside. The economic reality is that as buyers become more discerning in tougher economic times, products need to not only look great and be extremely durable but must sound great too. These headphones show an increasing focus on blending aesthetic and sound quality that will be a reflection of personal style and self-expression.

Reference 430 - $70 Reference 430 headphones are the perfect travel companion – easygoing, easy to pack, and great protection from outside noise. The 3.5mm stereo mini jack is compatible with MP3 players, mobile phones and various other audio players. Reference 250 - $40 Reference 250 in-ear headphones keep your friends close and your music closer. Just a press of the book-style microphone lets you pick up your calls without slowing you down. The 3.5mm stereo mini jack is compatible with MP3 players, mobile phones and various other audio players.

Will you be expanding the line going forward?

While we cannot comment on our upcoming product line, we see the headphone introduction as the beginning of a great and product rich line that extends beyond headphones.

Our introductory headphone line is only the beginning; both Roxy and JBL are hard at work designing and engineering products that will thoroughly meet the music needs of women.

Where are prices and margins looking like?

The best part of the Roxy/JBL headphone line is that there is a style and budget to fit almost every girl’s taste.
