OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE - Australia’s best trunks? Five years in and after causing a sensation within the Australian surf market the answer is probably yes! A tailor and his two sons started with a simple commitment, making the best board shorts in the business! Now after building on five years of success in Australia, this Burleigh Heads brand is poised to launch in the US.
Rhythm offers surf retailers and their customers a fresh, design-driven alternative in an increasingly homogenized market. The grass roots, family-run boardshort brand has created a sensation in Australia with its fun, art-based designs, quality craftsmanship and creative marketing.
Rhythm speaks to surfers who still regard the art of wave riding as creative self-expression, who yearn for new frontiers over the well-worn path.
With more than 40 years and two generations of surf and garment industry experience, Rhythm brings together a unique group of talented designers, artists, surfers and musicians with a shared dream of creating a livelihood doing what they love, drawing influences from the worlds of art, surf and music, past, present and future.
Heading up the US operation will be Jye Townend. Jye has been with Ocean&Earth (O&E) for 5 years working in a Sales & Marketing role. Jye’s market awareness and industry understanding will provide Rhythm with a solid base to build on and he is looking forward to taking this brand to the market. “I’m super pumped to be a part of RHYTHM and getting their roots set in the US market. The product is insane and gives a really a new fresh look to surf apparel.” says Jye.
Rhythm is planning a core-marketing program including traditional print media, some online plays as well as some unique one-off events to involve local youth and communities.
Joining the Rhythm sales team is Justin Hugron from Huntington Beach. A solid surfer with tons of style who grew up surfing the HB-Pier, Justin is the first rep hire and will be servicing stores between San Clemente and LA.”I’m psyched to have the opportunity to be a part of Rhythm,” says Justin, “The product is really good with great people behind it. It’s a rad company with crazy potential.” Currently Justin sub-reps under GT at Von Zipper and is constantly in store, making him the perfect fit for Rhythm.
Rhythm has a strong team of surfers in Australia. A wide mix of styles sees guys like 2008 ASP WCT competitor Kieren Perrow teaming up with Nixon W.T.A (Tahiti) winner Ryan Hipwood, surfer, artist, musician Neal Purchase Jnr, free surfers Rique Smith and Adam Bennetts as well as loggers; Jai Lee and Harrison Roach. A nice spread of equipment, personalities and styles provide inspiration for surfers wherever they go. The team will quickly grow to include American surfers who will add to the flavor.
