Retail Profiles: Pacific Drive, San Diego

For those who find themselves skating around the PB boardwalk in San Diego this summer, make an effort to diverge from the crowded pavement and you’ll probably be surprised at what you find. Smack dab next to Open Bar (don’t go in there, whatever you do) there’s a small white painted building with an even smaller sign, “Pacific Drive.” Give that a shot.

Teton Gravity Research Offsets Their Winter Footprint

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE - JACKSON, WY (March 30, 2009) - Jackson Hole based Teton Gravity Research provided funds to the national environmental organization, Protect Our Winters (POW) to offset 150 tons of CO2 accumulated during the production of this year’s award-winning film, “Under the Influence.” Teton Gravity Research is setting the bar by being the first action sports production company to offset its total carbon emissions from a film production.

The film crew and athletes generated carbon emissions through time on airplanes, helicopters, snow machines and automobiles during the 08/09 filming season. The funds will be redirected towards renewable energy projects through the Bonneville Environmental Foundation, located in Portland OR.

Steve Jones, co-founder of TGR, says about the recent steps, “We are excited to take the initiative to offset our carbon emissions from “Under the Influence” and we are doing the same with our future films. We understand we are not perfect, and we continue to evaluate all of our company activities in order to address the fact that we want to protect the environment that we work and play in.”

These initiatives range from re-thinking travel, selling 100% organic clothing and re-usable merchandise and partnering with organizations such as the Protect Our Winters and the Surfrider Foundation to make direct contributions towards protecting the environment. “We feel with our broad reach we can lead by example and by taking action,” said Jones.

“POW is proud to be partnering with TGR, helping them be the first action sports company that we know of to have a carbon-neutral film production strategy. TGR is not only committed to making great films, but also committed to the environment and pushing the industry forward by re-thinking how action sports films can be made more responsibly” said Chris Steinkamp, Executive Director of POW,

Teton Gravity Research is one of the fastest growing brands in the action sports industry. Founded in 1996, TGR has produced 18 award winning feature length films, numerous television series for Showtime, NBC, Fox Sports, and Fuel TV, and is known for its cutting edge media and lifestyles clothing line. TGR films showcase the world’s top snowboard, ski and surf athletes including Jeremy Jones, Ian Walsh, Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, and Seth Morrison. TGR is a proud member of 1 Percent for the Planet and strongly believes in protecting the environment in which the team works and plays. TetonGravity.com has become one of the leading online destinations and communities in the action sports industry.

Protect Our Winters (POW) was founded in 2007 by pro snowboarder Jeremy Jones. Our mission is to unite the winter sports community and contribute funds towards renewable energy and educational initiatives that help reverse climate change. Since then, POW has gained support from thousands of individuals and corporate partners such as: O’Neill, the Evergreen Alliance (Rossignol, Dynastar/Lange, Roxy), Burton, Volcom, Vans, Transworld Snowboarding, Grand Targhee Resort, Tactics and Teton Gravity Research.

Supported programs include Solar 4r Schools, a hands-on educational program that teaches students about the importance of renewable energy by placing solar panels on school rooftops, interactive kiosks in the classroom and curriculums in the hands of teachers. www.protectourwinters.org
