Hawaii, California, and Australia - After a few months in the think-tank
SUPER Surfboards is here. The creation of pro surfers Clay Marzo, Kolohe
Andino and Dion Agius, along with pro skater, Tosh Townend, SUPER is a new
company with a few goals: fun and innovation. Interestingly enough, these
are the same ingredients that have made these guys some of the most epic new
rippers in the world.
“Our goal is to create a surfboard company similar to GIRL or Chocolate in
skate, where we will have way more say in the look of the boards and the
creative side of the business. Not only will we go on trips around the world
together, but we’ll be developing content for the release of the Super
movie. There aren’t any board companies doing this in surfing today–but
that’s something we’re gonna change.”
“The thing that makes SUPER unique is that we’re involved with every aspect
of the company so that everything we put out–from the shapes and designs
all the way to the graphics on ‘em — inspired from skateboard and street
art –is a true representation of who we are.”
So, now, with a first run of pro models complete, SUPER have teamed up with
Transworld Surf to show you the gear at their first exclusive, epic release
party. It’s going to be DJ’d by TW editor and man of culture, Chris Cote.
Super Surfboards to hit shops in the Spring of 2008.

14 January, 2008 : - - It was just another day in the office for the North Shore’s own, Jamie O’Brien who came back from second place to win the title of CHAMP of Da Hui’s Backdoor Shootout taking home $50,000! Jamie was pulling off some insane moves in Pipeline barrels that could fit a City Bus in easily. Coming in second is Bruce Irons winning $25,000;
Ola Eleogram $15,000; Marcus Hickman $10,000; and Mark Healey & Myles Padaca tie-ing for 5th and BOTH surfers were awarded $5000 each. The only thing the 5th place winners could not share was the beautiful Christian Riese Lassen painting that each surfer was awarded along with their winnings.
So in true local Hawaiian style - Mark & Myles had to face each other, in front of the entire award ceremony crowd, for one round of “jun-ken-po” (rock, paper, scissors for you mainlanders). No executive decisions, no special judges meeting - just a down-home school yard battle, and winning the “jun-ken-po” was Da Hui’s Myles Padaca!
This is just true Da Hui style, we have top knotch surf contests with a touch of local flavor. From family members to good friends - everyone pitches in. This is how Da Hui Backdoor Shootout runs…it’s not only for the surfers - but for the local people as well as it’s the ONLY professional surfing contest that has the most local, native Hawaiian surfers and a contest that has one of the largest prize purses of ALL pro-surf contests on the North Shore.
Look at the boys who placed in the event - all Hawai’i surfers who are either part-Hawaiian or Hawaiian-at-heart…and that’s all good with us.
We ask for your support of Da Hui’s Backdoor Shootout. Every year, we battle with the City & County of Honolulu for a spot for the Shootout in the Winter Surf Schedule. The more support we have for this awesome event..da better. Should you feel the Shootout should continue season after season, send your letters of support to Dahui808@gmail.com or to P.O. Box 429 Haleiwa HI 96712.
Mahalo Nui to everyone who supported the Shootout! We appreciate you all and hope to see you at the 2009 7th Annual Da Hui Backdoor Shootout!
