Lazer and The Multi-directional Impact Protection System (MIPS) have collaborated to make one of the safest children’s helmets available on the market. The helmet is now available in the US in the Lazer P’Nut and Nut’Z Children’s helmets. Read on for the details behind the technology of this new product:
The MIPS patent was developed by some of the world’s leading researchers in biomechanics and nuroscience at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and the Karolinksa Institute in Sweden. In the same way that cars have airbags and are now tested for side impact, MIPS is setting a new standard for helmet safety. The secret behind MIPS’ unique patent comes from the study of the human brain.
The brain is surrounded by a low-friction cushion of cerebrospinal fluid. MIPS imitates the brain’s way of protecting itself by giving the helmet its own low-friction layer between the outer shell and the liner. In the event of a crash this layer absorbs much of the energy created by a blow to the head. The combination of the brain’s own protection and MIPS therefore ensures maximum protection for the rider. Very simple, yet very effective.
While the MIPS system can be found in other helmets, the P’Nut and the Nut’Z mark the first time this technology has been available for children. The P’Nut helmet fits infants up to a 54cm circumference head and weighs 270 grams. The Nut’Z helmet fits children up to a 56cm circumference head and weighs 300 grams. Both of these helmets have an SRP in the USA of $80.
Revolutionary head protection from MIPS, now available for children only from LAZER SPORT! Currently in stock and available in the United States from Quality Bicycle Products.
