Jeremy Jones, Gretchen Bleiler, and the rest of the Protect Our Winters team are heading to Capital Hill this September to lobby congress to support the Clean Air Act. Sign the petition to show the snow industry’s support for their efforts.
Here’s a letter from Protect Our Winters Executive Director Chris Steinkamp explaining their plan:
As you may know, the EPA is currently under attack for its ability to regulate carbon under the Clean Air Act. The Clean Air Act is a landmark piece of legislation that has successfully cleaned up some of the heaviest polluted areas in the US.
In response to a 2007 Supreme Court decision, the EPA included CO2 under the Clean Air Act as a pollutant that endangers public health – a landmark regulation that was reviewed by officials in the administrations of presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama. This gives the EPA has the ability to significantly keep addressing climate change by regulating CO2.
Even though almost two-thirds of voters in three presidential battleground states want the EPA to set greenhouse gas standards for industrial facilities, the House GOP is now moving quickly to pass a bill that would permanently stop the EPA from regulating CO2.
As a winter sports community, we’re starting to see the effects of climate change already. Keeping these regulations in place is one of the last, and most effective chances we have to protect our lifestyles, our jobs and the economic vitality of our mountain communities.
