Austrian actions sports retailer Blue Tomato joined forces with Quiksilver as part of the Union Project to create leather boardshorts.

According to Blue Tomato: “The traditional look was combined with Quiksilver’s high-tech boardshorts know-how which guarantees that you get what you need for surfing: Quick drying and stylish surf shorts with a comfortable fit and safe closure without pressure marks.”

Blue Tomato’s leather pants boardshorts are the perfect buddy for surfing, the beach, lake and beer garden!

In early medieval times the development of traditional leather pants started in the alpine regions of Bavaria and Austria. It is still not clear in which of these countries the resistant pants were made and worn for the first time. However, it is a fact that the first leather pants boardshorts come from Austria!

The traditional look was combined with Quiksilver’s high-tech boardshorts know-how which guarantees that you get what you need for surfing: Quick drying and stylish surf shorts with a comfortable fit and safe closure without pressure marks.

In the course of the Quiksilver Union Project, nine of the best core surf shops on this continent, among them Blue Tomato, “the surf shop in the alps”, got the possibility to design their own boardshorts. After experimenting with many diverse ideas and designs, the leather pants boardshorts were the favorite. There are not many pieces of clothing that embody Austria and the Alps as much as these traditional pants. In order to get functional surf shorts and not only a fancy fashion gag, top-notch materials have been used. Thanks to the premium photo print on the quick drying material, the boardshorts look like authentic leather pants without compromising the technical requirements of modern surf shorts. The material’s quality as well as the fit and manufacturing match those of other top-quality boardshorts.

Technical innovations like the new, unique closure system prove that these boardshorts have been designed and developed by Blue Tomato – from surfers for surfers. Different from many other surf shorts, the closure system works without inconvenient lacing. This avoids pressure marks, but at the same time also lends the boardshorts a perfect fit, which keep them on your body even after the heaviest wipe out.

The Blue Tomato leather pants boardshorts are ideal to show people on distant beaches where you come from. Thanks to the specific girls and grom cuts and the classy men’s shorts, anyone can become a real cultural ambassador.

The “leather pants” not only look good on a surfboard, the design is also a real eye-catcher at the lake, in indoor swimming pools or the city park. If you fancy a visit to the beer garden afterwards, you don’t even have to change your pants to match the “dress code” there. Tradition meets innovation!

Only one question remains: when will Blue Tomato’s designers come up with a traditional and surf-suitable “Dirndl” for the girls?
