Fuel TV Appoints New Executive Vice President And GM

After news hit Tuesday that Fuel TV Executive President and General Manager CJ Olivares stepped down from his post, the network has announced that 16-time Emmy Award-Winning producer and director George Greenberg is assuming the role and will now lead the Fox-owned company. Greenberg, who helped launched Fox Sports and lead all marketing efforts for Fox Broadcasting Company, was named to the new position by Chairman of Fox Sports Media Group David Hill The official announcement follows. Greenberg now oversees day-to-day operations of FUEL TV including research, programming, development, scheduling, production, on-air promotion, marketing and communications functions. He also works to develop strategies to accelerate the network’s revenue growth in traditional areas such as distribution and advertising sales, while also identifying new sources of income such as video on demand, mobile initiatives and broadband services.

“In his 17 years at FOX, George has consistently demonstrated that he’s among the most talented television executives I’ve ever worked with, no matter what the assignment,” said Hill. “Having a keen eye for talent, set design, program content and promotion, he has the ability to create programs from scratch and take existing shows and make them better, and I’m confident he’ll use all his skills to the long-term benefit of FUEL TV.”

Prior to taking over FUEL TV, Greenberg had been serving as Executive Vice President, Programming & Production, FOX Sports Media Group. In this role, which he assumed in 2007, Greenberg identified new talent, reviewed broadcasts, designed graphics, sets, music, control quality in post-production and generally maintained the high standards of the FOX Sports brand on-air. For much of the last year, he devoted his energies towards developing new programs for SPEED, including CAR WARRIORS, AMERICAN TRUCKERS, CAR SCIENCE and THE CAR SHOW, hosted by comedian Adam Corolla. He also served as executive producer for SPEED’s coverage of the inaugural NASCAR Hall of Fame induction ceremony last May.

“I’m looking forward to injecting myself into all the various components of FUEL TV’s operations as quickly as possible as we transition to a network with a broader male appeal,” added Greenberg. “My first priorities are to strengthen the quality of our action sports programming and then identify and/or develop attractive programs that help broaden our base while not straying too far from our core.”

Greenberg previously was responsible for national programming, scheduling, event production and developing original programs for Fox Sports Net from 2001-2008. He was also executive producer of BEST DAMN SPORTS SHOW PERIOD, BEYOND THE GLORY and all studio programming as well as the network’s national news presence.

Prior to joining Fox Sports Net, Greenberg served as Executive Vice President, Marketing, FOX Broadcasting Company from February 1997 to December 2000 where he directed all marketing and communications efforts.

Greenberg also helped launch FOX Sports, joining in May 1994 as Senior Vice President and Creative Director for the division. He was a senior executive on the team responsible for conceptualizing the new division’s market identity and branding, establishing innovative on-air campaigns for the NFL on FOX (Same Game, New Attitude), graphic look, studio sets and theme music. He did the same for FOX Sports’ NHL and MLB on-air promotional campaigns.

He joined FOX Sports after serving as producer/director for ABC Sports for seven years. During his tenure there, Greenberg worked on the Summer and Winter Olympic Games in 1984 and the 1988 Olympic Winter Games, serving as segment producer for the network’s late-night Olympic shows. He also served as the studio director for “Wide World of Sports” as well as “College Football Today.”

From 1984 to 1987, he was Director of Advertising and Promotion, ABC Sports, where he created the Hank Williams “All My Rowdy Friends Are Here for Monday Night” campaign, which is currently still in use. At ABC, he garnered nine Emmy Awards, including four for on-air promotion and five for producing and directing at ABC Sports.

He began his career in 1976 at WCIX-TV in Miami, FL, after receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Syracuse University. A native of New York, Greenberg and his family currently reside in Los Angeles.
