Patagonia recently opened a new shop in Honolulu, Hawaii’s Ward Centers, and will hold a Community Day Celebration Saturday, September 18, with help from Surfrider Oahu, Khea, Blue Planet Foundation and North Shore Community Land Trust. The retail space marks the second Hawaiian retail store for Patagonia, and the company’s 27th store nationwide. The retail space expansion comes on the heels of financial success for Patagonia, with sales last year surpassing $330 million and the company founder and owner Yvon Chouinard citing that it’s had its “two best years ever” during the recent economic downturn. Here’s more on the new store:
The store, which opened for business in late August, will celebrate with a Community Day Celebration on Saturday, September 18, from 10-8. All are invited to meet the new staff, learn about local environmental issues and sign up for giveaways. Light refreshments will also be served.
The location is the company’s 27th retail storefront offering a variety of Patagonia-branded clothing, technical apparel, footwear and children’s clothing for outdoor pursuits—adventure sports such as rock climbing, surfing, paddling and others that celebrate the natural environment yet leave behind no trace of human influence. All products reflect the company’s well-known commitment to environmental causes, including 100% organic cotton apparel that avoids causing environmental damage from toxic chemicals used in growing conventional cotton, and recycled fleece, nylon, and Capilene® baselayers.
Every Patagonia store is active in local environmental causes, and this new store will continue that tradition. At Patagonia, you can count on two things: finding the high-quality, environmentally responsible products you want from a company that pioneered corporate environmental activism on both a local and global scale,” said Robert Cohen, Vice President of Patagonia’s Global Retail Division. “Our Hale’iwa store has been very well supported by the local residents and visitors to The Northshore and we look forward to being an active part of the Honolulu community with this new location in Ward Centers.”
Ward Centers is located across from Ala Moana Beach Park and is just minutes from Waikiki and Downtown Honolulu.
Patagonia’s commitment to product quality is matched by its environmental stewardship and the company’s retail locales are well-positioned to serve the active outdoor lifestyle needs of its customers. For example, each retail store allots both monetary grants and product donations to local environmental groups of their choosing, in addition to inviting customers to decide where to grant additional funds through their annual Voice Your Choice™ program.
