Skate Shops Battle At The Best Damn Shop Contest

Started in 2006 in Raleigh, North Carolina, The Best Damn Shop Contest (BDSC) launched as a way to get mid-atlantic and east coast skate shops together for a little friendly rivalry of sorts.  Shops from Georgia to Delaware were called to compete, and Maury from Dominion in Richmond built the trophy for the winner (since dubbed the Stanley Cup of skateboarding by the legendary Jefferson Pang). The rest is history. Every year more and more shops have participated and more sponsors have wanted to be involved, to help make the Best Damn Shop Contest the coolest, invite-only shop contest on the east coast.

The 4th Annual BDSC was hosted last weekend, April 23-24 at Raleigh’s Project 58 and Vertical Urge. BDSC’s format has two riders from each participating shop competing in jam-style, bracketed heats. Think of it as a high-level free-for-all on the course.

Twenty four shops came out this year for the contest and Washington D.C.’s Palace 5ive took home the cup. Sean Gregoire and Justin Damer slayed the Project 58 course, barely edging out last years champs Gilbert Crockett and Jordan Bradshaw from Dominion. Here are the final heat results. Also, local hero Connor Champion came away with the Best Damn Trick as well.
