Ian Gentil Wins Open Boys At NSSA Nationals With Perfect Score

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE - At age 13 year, Nike 6.0 surf athlete Ian Gentil is a National champion. The Maui surfer won Open Boys at NSSA Nationals held at Trestles, June 23-June 27th. Gentil scored two perfect 10’s for a perfect score of 20, only accomplished two other times in the 31 year history of NSSA Nationals. “Ian has a supernatural amount of talent and his style is beyond his years.” Said Nike 6.0 mentor, Jason Kenworthy. “At age 13, he is a threat for surfers twice his size and age.” Ian made it the quarterfinals in the 6.0 Pier Pressure Pro Jr., a Grade 4 event. Be on the lookout for more standout performances, as Ian has 7 more years of surfing the Pro Jr. events.
The NSSA National Open Championships is one of the largest and most prestigious amateur events in the world, providing surfing’s youth the opportunity to showcase their skills at Trestles, one of the most high performance waves in the country. Over the course of the past 31 years the NSSA has nurtured the emerging talents of many of today’s influential surfers including former champs Kelly Slater, Rob Machado, CJ Hobgood, Bobby Martinez, Fred Patacchia, and Carissa Moore.
