Miles Canevello Wins Gatorade Free Flow Tour Event at Warp Skatepark

Out of a field of 67 skaters, Miles Canevello won the skate park competition Saturday at the Gatorade Free Flow Tour’s stop in North Chicago, Ill.

Sixteen-year-old Canevello from McHenry, Ill. earned the victory at Warp Skatepark after consistent, technical skating all day. Canevello executed a backside nose grab 360 and a melon wall ride during the final jam session to seal the victory. Jack Olson was second and Ryan Buss finished in third place.

“I almost didn’t skate in the Gatorade Free Flow Tour today because I had a flight to catch,” Canevello said. “But after watching some of my friends competing, I knew I hade to give it a shot. I’m so glad I won. I skated my heart out, and now I can’t wait for the Finals!”

“We’ve worked hard to get an event like the Gatorade Free Flow Tour to come to Warp,” Rob Mutert, owner of Warp Skatepark, said. “Something like this gives skaters the chance to skate at their best and push their skating to the next level.”

In attendance at Saturday’s contest was former Gatorade Free Flow Tour champion and 2008 Dew Cup winner Chaz Ortiz, who served as a judge in the contest.

“It was a great contest with a lot of great skating,” Ortiz said. “It was hard to judge because everyone’s skating was amazing. Congratulations to Miles, he really pulled it out today.”

With the win, Canevello earns an automatic bid into the Gatorade Free Flow Tour Finals that will take place at the Dew Tour’s Toyota Challenge, September 17-20, 2009.
