McLean, Virginia – SnowSports Industries America (SIA) and the American Association for Physical Activity and Recreation (AAPAR) have issued a Call for Proposals (CFP) from organizations within and outside the snow sports industry interested in presenting at Get Out!, a first-of-its-kind national conference that will focus on providing resources for physical education teachers and physical activity and recreation professionals who want to involve youth in snow sports. The conference will take place December 3-5, 2009, at the Margate Resort on Winnipesaukee and Gunstock Resort, near Laconia, New Hampshire. The conference will be a combination of indoor workshops and on-snow clinics that will cover all aspects of snow sports, including alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing and snowshoeing, among other winter outdoor recreation. Presenters will include professionals from the snow sports industry and physical education and physical activity professionals in education and recreation. Participants will include professionals from the physical education and activity professions as well as snow sports instructors.

Topics considered for proposal submission include “How to Fit and Buy Equipment,” “Everything You Need to Know about Risk Management,” “Dressing for Maximum Movement and Warmth,” “How to Plan a (Snow Sports) Trip,” and explanations of terms such as Freeride, kick and glide, Telemark skiing, ski-skating and more.

“This conference gives our industry a unique opportunity to bring together two important groups that can greatly impact the future of snow sports, that is, professionals who regularly work to activate youth and industry personnel who can offer important information that encourages involvement in snow sports,” SIA President David Ingemie said. “It will teach hands-on skills that can immediately be put to use by practitioners. We are pleased to be partnering with AAPAR on this exciting and timely program.”

SIA’s Growing the SnowSports Industry research report shows that getting a child of ten years involved in snow sports can result in a lifetime expenditure of $65,000 on snow sports, while a beginning adult of age 25 only spends $18,000 over a lifetime. Between 100 and 150 participants are expected to attend Get Out!, and each teacher represents an average of 500 students.
