BEHIND THE LINES: Celsius Boots

Since stepping on the scene a scant five years ago, San Diego’s Celsius has upped the ante annually, gained a solid following, and keeps expanding its reach in core retail. With a team that includes the likes of Jon Kooley, Jake Koia, Jordan Michilot, and Zak Hale they’re assuring they’ll be represented by some of the raddest riders for a while. We caught up with Brand Ambassador  Jason R. Kimball to get to the sole of what’s in store for next year.

What’s the latest and greatest for your new line?

We put more energy into improving the overall quality by importing “folded seams” for durability on those wear-n-tear areas.  We also enforced structural strength by using Custom Molded Backstays both inside and outside the boot shell, and made our O-zone speed lacing system even more user friendly.  We added another Men’s and Women’s model to the lineup as well.

We are once again featuring a natural hemp fabric in our line, which uses far less CO2 and pollutants during production.  We have also introduced a radical laser etching technology onto our new OPUS5.

TO DO OUR PART TO HELP KEEP THINGS GREEN, WE USED A NATURAL HEMP MATERIAL THAT EMITS MUCH LESS CO2 WHEN PRODUCING THAN TRADITIONAL METHODS AND MATERIALS. ALSO, OUR CUSTOM O-ZONE LINER USES NO CHEMICALS, YET IT STILL KEEPS YOUR FEET WARM, DRY AND FRESH.

What are the three biggest trends you are seeing in the boot market?

Fashion, form and function…with a bit of the “less is more” philosophy.

What new construction techniques do you see breaking out?

New fabrics and treatments, the continuation of new and improved lacing systems

What about graphic treatments and colors?

We have everything across the board, from all over prints, new bright poppy colors, the stock blacks and whites, and some sublimated printing and screens as well.

After a succesful launch into the womens snowboard footwear market, the Cloud9 is back to once again keep the ladies feeling like their feet are indeed in the clouds. Made just for the female foot, this boot delivers in any and all riding conditions.

Are price points trending up or down for you?

We have stayed pretty consistent and are offering the retailers and riders the same great product at an affordable price across the board.

Any new trends in market segmentation?

We put some added focus into the Women’s segment as it seems to be growing steadily, and are now offering two different Women specific models built just for their feet from the ground up. The ladies seem to be creating their own trends and not just following the dudes.

How about new pro models?

No pro models, all of our boots are Bro Models…as we get design input from the entire celsius clan.

What are you most stoked on in your ’07/‘08 boot offerings?

We are hyped on our growing Womens line, with the introduction of another boot just for them…the Fenom.  We also added a new high end boot that has everything you will ever need for your feet, the OPUS5.
