UPDATE: Anonymous sources have confirmed that Phelps isn’t really fired.
Following an angry rant Monday morning condemning former pro Frank Hirata, and explaining why he was banned from the magazine, High Speed Productions is reporting they let longtime editor Jake Phelps go.
The rant was part of a series called “5 Days Of Hate,” wherein Phelps berated Hirata with insults, referring to him as a “faggot” multiple times.
Shortly after, Phelps issued an explanation on the site that read: “It seems nobody is really ‘banned’ from the mag. I’m just sayin’, if I ran a pizza shop, they wouldn’t be my favorite customers. Just like you, some people goon it and that’s it—they’re cut. I don’t care who you say you know. A kook is a kook, understand? Keep the comments coming. Love it, bitches.”
The following morning, Thrasher’s Web editor Schmitty posted “Phelps Fired” on their news section. “After yesterday’s random rant from a mad man, HSP decided to terminate Phelps to end this once and for all.”
The post linked to a video of Phelps himself, talking about the situation. “I’m not a jock, I’ve done a lot of drugs. I’m just a regular guy. Like I said, truth hurts,” says Phelps.
No word yet as to why they haven’t removed the questionable content, or why they permitted Phelps a post-termination video. Stay tuned for confirmation.

The ‘Phelper’ is a drugged out, washed up has been who made this whole scam up himself as a promo stunt.
Sources also say that High Speed is truly bummed on him for doing something this stupid. Really.
A fun, real stunt would be to ACTUALLY fire his old, homophobic ass…but High Speed doesn’t have the balls.

It takes much more time to dream up and execute this kind of BS than to observe the fallout true or not. If it is a hoax, perhaps they should put more of that time into making Thrasher Magazine a relevant publication again. What a bunch of douchebags… snore.

I think Jake Phelps shouldn’t issue any type of apology, and I would really like to see the remaining four days of hate promised to me.
There’s nothing wrong with explaining why someone will never be in the one true mag left. In Frank Hirata’s case, his absence from the mag is well deserved because he’s dumped a lot of monstrosities of skateparks in towns that deserve better. He lowballs all his estimates to beat out real, true skatepark builders to get the job, and the fucks it up EVERYTIME. Ask anyone with a Perkis-Rose park in their town.
If you think he’s a “hater”, then you should just not watch the video, or just keep your “innocent” little nose in Transworld where every other lame, painful-to-read article lies. Seriously how can anyone continue to read “Haters are ruining skateboarding… Be positive!… You know what, F–K (can’t use cuss words in Sports Illustrated Skateboarding for Kids) the haters”?
The term “hater” is one of the lamest inventions to the English language, and when it’s used you make yourself deserved to be hated on. It’s a cruel world, and eventually something will piss you off to the point where you realize being positive 100% of the time is just fake. Some people just deserve it.
