2009 Natural Selection Canceled

ADMIN

After an epic inaugural event that brought some of snowboarding’s best and brightest together for an insane new format dubbed an “All Mountain Freestyle Invitational”, the Quiksilver Natural Selection team has announced that it will not be holding an event this season to instead focus its efforts on 2010. A damn shame with all the snow Jackson’s getting.

Here’s the official word:

This winter, snowboarding fans will continue to try to grasp the cinematic magnitude of  That’s it That’s All. They will see Travis compete in contests, they will read about him in the media and they will see repeated airings of the Natural Selection TV special on Fuel TV.  If the Transworld Exposure-Meter is any indication, they won’t be able to turn a corner without seeing Travis’ face. But they will have to wait for the second iteration of this now legendary contest as we have collectively decided not to run it in 2009.  Of course, we all continue to believe in Travis’ concept and the incredible team that made it all happen and we hope to bring it back, bigger and better than ever, in 2010. That’s not it, that’s not all. There is more to come.

    costs $$$

Dicks Ditch was firing today. The jumps are almost more fun naturally than the semi modified version we rode in the contest. We should just run it cowboy style. Everyone is invited to come out and shred the ditch, we will judge ourselves and the winner gets some high fives.

Yet another sign that Quiksilver isn’t doing so hot?

  • crackhead Says:

news flash angry dude. the whole world isn’t doing so hot. maybe you missed that memo?

the down economy really doesn’t play favorites when it comes to brands.

Retail is down across the board.

Crack sales are UP 37% in my hood Crackhead , all other categories are down though !

  • DivineHammer Says:

Speaking of crack: Everyone knows that the retail sector hit an all time disaster of a slump in ‘08. Not just in the surf industry, but as “crackhead” pointed out, it’s whacked across the board. To make matters even worse, you have the Governnor of Cali wanting to INCREASE the sales tax on top of the economic pile of ca-ca we are in, as well! I guess the surf industry will have to hold it’s collective breath (again) in 2009 and see what gonna happen with the economy across the nation and worldwide. As for Quik…I don’t think they are going to fare well, despite the sale of Rossi and winning the ESPN lawsuit. Ending the year in waaaaay too much debt, and starting the year off in debt, cannot be good for business.

Craksilver ? sorry , in a good mood today , should probably get off the Forum and back on the pipe .

  • jimbokillcrane Says:

a company with the revenue that Quik has had for so long should NOT be in this position, poor management and greed is what takes companies worth billions down, many companies that are much smaller will survive just fine, but once you start having to appease the almighty shareholder that wants to make 25% on the stock they bought a year ago, then you’re fucked. the good thing about this economic ‘collapse” is these big fucking pointless dinosaurs will go away.

  • glenn fake Says:

i figured this may happen with quik’s ’situation’. it’s a bit of a bummer, as this ‘contest’ of sorts was the only type i was really interested in watching.

  • hmmm... Says:

Same here. It’s a damn shame…To bad nobody can step in and fill the bill, but I am guessing Quik owns the rights. Back to more of the Xgames crap…booo. I wonder about NF freeride comp?

  • Gogglez Says:
