Skier Dies In In-bounds Jackson Hole Avalanche
While epic early season snow falls have the industry rejoicing, they are making for some sketchy snow conditions that have claimed the lives of at least six people so far this season. The latest victim was David Nodine of Wilson, Wyoming who was buried under 8 feet of snow in an in-bounds avalanche on Saturday at Jackson Hole. Although ski patrol got to him within six minutes of the slide, they couldn’t save the 31-year-old.
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort spokeswoman Anna Olson says ski patrol had taken precautions to reduce avalanche danger in the area before opening it to the public.
Jackson Hole President Jerry Blann released the following statement:
“Teton Village, WY - On Saturday, December 27, an avalanche at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort claimed the life of one of our guests.
On behalf of the entire Jackson Hole Mountain Resort staff we extend our deepest sympathies to the victim’s family and friends. This tragic accident is under thorough investigation.
The search for the victim involved Jackson Hole Mountain Resort Ski Patrol and other Resort staff, I would also like to extend my thanks to all of these individuals for the professionalism displayed throughout.”
