Earlier this month, on a brisk November 12th the NYC board sports community bundled up and turned their pockets inside out to raise funds for an amazing NYC based organization, Stoked Mentoring, the action sports non-profit organization that gets kids and adults together- all on a board.
Stoked Mentoring was co-founded in 2005 by Steve Larosiliere and Sal Masekela, Stoked Mentoring is a unique non-profit organization based in New York and Los Angeles that that exposes “at risk” youth and their mentors to surfing, skating and snowboarding and the action sports lifestyle. In addition to raising money for the non-profit, Stoked honored Tony Hawk with the award for overall achievement for all of his work with the Tony Hawk Foundation as well as to Mentoring Pair and Volunteers of the year.
This year’s awards night was one to reckon with. The 2nd Annual Stoked Awards was presented by Toyota Matrix at The Red Bull Space in New York, which continues to kill it as the premier location to hold unique, crazy fun parties.
I rolled to the party with TW’s own group publisher Liam Ferguson, and the TW east coast ad sales duo Mike Boyka and Shane Wilson. Off the bat, we were all blown away before we even walked through the door. The night started off with a walk down the red carpet, all to the tune of a young gent rocking out to guitar hero in the back of a Toyota Matrix. We had cocktails spiked with Red Bull that kept us hopping, checked out the goods at the silent auction, and cheered on as Tony inspired us at the awards ceremony. Over 300 hundred strong came out to support Stoked and party down. It was a night to remember- and we’ve got stoked skate decks to show for it.
We all left with that warm happy feeling knowing we had done some good for inner-city kids and their mentors, giving them the cold hard cash to continue to create positive relationships and learning valuable life skills through the radness of action sports.
Checks out the pics for the full run down.
