Transworld Business teamed up with SIMA to conduct a survey at the Sacred Craft consumer surfboard expo held in Del Mar, California a few weeks ago. After dialing in more than a dozen questions with input from members of SIMA’s Board Builders Specila Interest Group, 250 surveys were filled out over the course of the two day show. While the survey only represents informal data gathered at a single consumer show from a small area, the results are still very interesting if you’re in the business of building and/ or selling surfboards. Here’s a portion of the results:
How Many Surfboards Do you Own?
What Style Surfboard Do You Prefer To Ride?
What Type/ Construction Surfboard Do You Ride?
How Often Do You Buy A New Surfboard?
What Is The Most Important Factor To You When Purchasing A New Board?
Where Did You Buy Your Last Surfboard?
How Much Did You Spend On Your Last Surfboard? (In U.S. Dollars)
This is just a small sample of research. For complete results from this consumer survey, as well as separate national surveys from more than 60 board builders and 200 retailers from around the U.S., you’ll have to wait for the December issue of Transworld Business and SIMA’s next Shapes Newsletter.
*Special thanks to Travis Wilkerson and Firewire Surfboards for conducting the survey and donating a brand new Firewire to raffle of to survey particiapants.
