Burton Nylon Party
Words and photos by Stefan Desis:
Last Wednesday, November 12th, the Burton Flagship Store in New York City hosted their first party of the winter season when fashion industry heads and the staff of Nylon magazine rolled into town. By the time the doors were opened at 7 pm, the line stretched down the block and around the corner of Spring Street. After waiting in the frigid cold, guests were welcomed into the packed snowboard shop by a live DJ, open bar, and loads of gift bags. While the who’s who of the fashion world tried on helmets and snuck peeks at the new Burton Love boards, the DJ spun beats underneath the big screen, where Burton’s “It’s Always Snowing Somewhere” was playing on repeat. Meanwhile, Mikey Welsh — designer of the 2009 Burton Farm graphic — occupied himself with his paintbrushes and canvas. His two original artworks of the night would be put on sale on the spot to benefit Burton’s Chill Foundation.
By the end of the night, five lucky raffle winners would walk away with special edition Burton snowboards with Nylon graphics, while numerous other winners were allowed to choose any jacket in the store to take home with them. Special thanks to Burton for hosting a great party, V2 vodka for providing enough drinks for the night, and the Nylon staff for making it all happen.
