Snow Exposure Oct. 2008

Although summer’s still in full swing in most of the country, chilly nights, light dustings of snow in the high country, and the first couple issues of shred magazines means it’s time to fire up the 2008/09 Exposure-Meter with a clean slate for all the competitors. It’s anybody’s race as some new faces look to replace the hierarchy and some legends show how they earned that adjective.

Danny Kass came out swinging with some heavy ad and edit support to put him on the top of the heap for the first round, but Devun Walsh is breathing down his neck, thanks in no small part to his DC ads and a ridiculous Transworld cover shot. Travis Rice rounded out the coveted top-three with some strong ad support for his much-awaited movie That’s It, That’s All, as well some solid editorial coverage of TITA and his Natural Selection contest. Look for him to be a strong contender this year due to TITA, Natural Selection’s second round, and a few skills. Speaking of mad skills, Jamie Anderson exhibited hers in a huge article in Snowboarder’s September issue and finds herself starting the season in the top-ten overall and number one on the editorial chart. Darrell Mathes, Stevie Bell, Iikka Backstrom, and Jake Blauvelt also migrated into the illustrious top-ten from the Exposure-Meter hinterlands.

In addition to the new faces in the points race, you may have noticed a new face in the magazines we’re covering this year. Look for some new riders and photographers to make their mark this season as we welcome Snowboard Magazine to the Exposure-Meter family and bid a fond farewell to the now-defunct Future.

Another major change for this season’s inaugural Exposure-Meter is the names that aren’t hovering near the top. Last year’s defending champ, Andreas Wiig, got off to a fairly slow start at 25th. Even more surprising is super shred Shaun White’s post of just 1,800 points, landing him at 41st, after leading the race going into last season’s final round. However, things are just getting heated up so tune in next month to find out who’s bringing home the bacon with the banger shots.
