Details Of Firewire’s Partnership With …Lost Surfboards
In mid August Firewire Surfboards announced it was partnering with …Lost Surfboards to create a limited range of designs by …Lost Co-founder Matt Biolos. Transworld Business took a trip down to Firewire’s production facility in San Diego to meet up with the Firewire crew and Biolos as they were making their first board together. Check out the construction of the first ever …Lost surfboard featuring Firewire’s FST technology right here.
Here are some of the details about the collaboration, and a little insight into why it makes sense for both parties involved.
The partnership has spawned two models, with four sizes of each available. A total of eight SKUs featuring Firewire’s Future Shapes Technology (FST) and Biolos’ design will be included in the first round of collaboration.
“From my side of the table, we’re launching with two models and if it’s successful I want to expand,” says Biolos. The preliminary offering will include …Lost’s F1 and Stealth models. “The F1 is something I’ve built off of feedback from pro surfers, but that most young guys that are in shape can ride as well,” Biolos explains. “It’s your basic all-around, high-performance pro-influenced shortboard. My other model is more of an everyday, average Joe board called the Stealth. It looks like a shortboard, but it’s called the Stealth because it’s a fish hidden inside a shortboard.”
According to Firewire President Mark Price, both parties are excited about the partnership. “…Lost is getting access to a technology that’s proven in the market, is retailing well, and works,” he says. “From day one Matt [Biolos] embraced our technology, and I think that’s why …Lost was a logical partner for us. This partnership is going to send a strong message to a lot of surfers who may be on the fence about new technologies, and I think it’ll cause some people to take a fresh look at our technology.”
For Biolos, the decision to diversify the brand’s offering was a no-brainer. “The market is definitely tightening, and the cream is going to rise to the top. We’re just trying to make some bold, aggressive moves to make sure we remain in the stores,” he says.
The first Stealth gets ready for production.
Biolos looks on as the materials are set in place on the shaping machine.
A few final adjustments….
And the first board is officially underway.
