Burton’s nonprofit learn-to-ride program for undeserved youth held its 7th Annual VT Golf Tournament this past Monday, September 8th, 2008. This tournament helped to raise money for programs across the country that are geared to motivate and teach challenged youth about patience, persistence, responsibility and courage through the action sports vehicle. In the backyard of the Burton Headquarters at the Vermont National Country Club, Chill was able to raise enough support with the help of their sponsors to fund almost two entire Chill sites!

Over 268 golfers signed up for this year’s tournament, showing their support for the foundation by swinging their clubs for a good cause. Derek Freeburn, National Coordinator for the Chill Foundation was quoted, “With the event currently being our largest annual fundraiser, we couldn’t be more grateful to have such a great turnout of corporate sponsors and individuals who truly contribute greatly to making Chill a reality for 2,200 deserving youth each year.”

With this event brought along the initiation of newly hired Chill Director, Katherine McConnell. When asked what Chill means to her, she replied, “Chill’s unique ability to combine incredible environments, positive role models and new experiences in the context of a fun learn-to-ride program truly allows us to serve youth in immeasurable ways.”

With the weather more than cooperating, everyone was able to enjoy a beautiful day on a signature 18-hole Jack Nicklaus design championship course overlooking one of the most scenic views in Burlington, VT. The founder of both Burton Snowboards and Chill, Jake Burton Carpenter, came and showed his support in the tournament, along with his son, Taylor, making this event deemed to most as an overall hole-in-one success.
