Top Riders to Compete in Skullcandy Winter Rail Jam

OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE - (Christchurch, New Zealand—August 7, 2008) Skullcandy, a developer of core audio products, is excited to announce snow industry top riders participating in its 2nd Annual Skullcandy Winter Rail Jam presented by Export Gold. A snow sports event featuring over 100 top riders from around the world, the event will occur this Saturday, August 9th in New Zealand.

“This event will be a lot of fun for spectators as well as the riders,” said Jaclyn Philpott, organizer for the Winter Rail Jam. “It’s the biggest rail jam ever to hit the streets of Christchurch and DJ Sticky Fingaz will be there turning the tunes aside MC Mana from Rhombus.”

The Jam will be held in the heart of Christchurch’s entertainment district where a massive structure will be constructed on The Strip, including 40 tons of snow trucked in from Mt. Hutt. During the Jam, riders will climb a 4.5 m structure before launching themselves down a ramp and onto the rail.

Riders now confirmed for the event include Burton team rider Robett Hollis, top New Zealand rider Mitch Brown, Parklife team riders Nick Hyne and Heath Paterson, and 540s’ riders Maia Stier and Paula Mitchell. Tim and Riley Bathurst, along with Leon Mckay, Jay Walsh, Jamin (Queenstown Quest), Alex Harper, Nick Brown, Julian Sinky, Alan Austrin, Charlotte Trundle, Harry Giddings, Will Jackways, TJ (methven), Ben Comber, Henry Wadsworth-watts, Kiri Binnersly, Joe Mack, Benji Oppan, and Andy Kennerly will join over 100 freestyle skiers and boarders to take part in the Jam.

Prizes are valued at more than $5,500 and will be distributed by a panel of judges who will be rating top tricks and aerials. Prizes will be awarded to the riders, with the first prize being a Subaru Legacy filled with Export Gold, Jagermeister and Demon Energy Drink. Spectators at the event will be eligible to potentially win up $2,500 worth of prizes throughout the evening, with the main prize going to the spectator in the best retro ski outfit.

Project Legit and local grafitti artist Decypher will also be at the event conducting a graffiti demonstration for all attendees.

Oxford Terrace will be closed from Lichfield Street to Hereford Street all day on Saturday, August 9, 2008 to allow heats and activities to start from 2.30 p.m., with practice runs for the main competition starting at 5:30 p.m. Local DJs Nacoa and Shortkutz will be on hand to provide music for the afternoon and evening.
