Burton Snowboards launched its new website today and its new catalog dropped as well. The site has great visuals, navigates well, and features the company’s huge new line for ‘08/’09. It also confirms the rumors that some major shifts have been made in the company’s team.
Based on a comparison of the new site and the old team list here’s the haps:
Moving on up:
Danny Davis, Mason Aguirre and Kevin Pearce have moved up from the Burton Team to the Global Team. The Burton Team also has a number of new names. Congrats go out to:
Mark Sollars
Gabi Viteri
Ellery Hollingsworth
Kim Rune Hansen
Sina Candrian
Yuki Furhata
There are also quite a few names missing from both the Global and Burton teams.
The riders no longer listed on the Global Team are:
Romain De Marchi
DCP
Keir Dillon
Ross Powers
JP Solberg
Anne-Flore Marxer
According to Burton, “Keir Dillon is very much a part of Burton, but not on the Global team and the same goes for JP (Solberg), and Sami Saarenpaa.”
The riders no longer listed on the Burton team are:
Elena Hight
Mitch Reed
Wyatt Stasinos
Sami Saarenpaa
Hannes Metzler
Morgan Lefaucheur

this is so lame,.

Ross Powers has done nothing in the last 5 - 6 years. Cutting him was LONG overdue.
August 3rd, 2008 at 3:29 pm
im guessing ross was on so long because he signed a contract probably shortly after his SLC gold medal that was long term…..
August 3rd, 2008 at 5:39 pm
romain and jp belong on the team

And the backlash begins…check out the Boycott Burton Facebook group already up and running.

Burton is always moving and shaking, nothing new. Burton is moving a shaking on all levels as we speak, in house, riders, etc.

I used to have a lot of respect for the Burton brand. It appeared they used to appreciate their veterans that could really help and guide those up and comers. Guys like DCP, Keir, even Romain and JP have a wealth of information about the backcountry. Doesn’t appear so anymore, guess Jake needs another private jet….
August 4th, 2008 at 3:57 pm
I heard Un…Inc is out after this year too. Taking Romain off the team seems like it could be true. Dude still rips and puts down a solid video part every year.
August 4th, 2008 at 4:11 pm
Burton is still one of the last companies that hasn’t sold their soul to wall street. In this day and age, being a privately held company is a big statement. Even with all of these cuts, the Burton team budget alone (not including Forum, Channel Islands, Anon, etc)is still probably triple that of any other brand. I’m not trying to say that Burton only makes good decisions, look what happened with JP Walker. Does Jake really have a private jet? Not sure about that one.
August 4th, 2008 at 4:24 pm
I’m not sure if he owns a private jet but I’m pretty sure they have a timeshare on a couple jets. Like condos you get so many days of the year of use of the jet….
August 5th, 2008 at 1:41 am
he he must have had to cut back after all the sales lost to magne traction burton is loosing momentum fast. they are the
kmart of snowboarding

viewing the latest issue of TWS Snowboarding it’s easy to see that the indusry is shrinking, that only the large will survive. the hardgoods markets in the USA and Europe have been polluted and diluted to the point of no return. softgoods sales, many of them to non-participants, is the only bright spot in the industry right now. snowboarding is the new rollerblading, derided and laughed at by so many now. and with good reason, the industry has patted itself on the back for far too long now. and FAR too many weak riders being sponsored and promoted as pros when they can’t even figure out a line outside a park of the huge kicker.
looking forward to more Fallout from the Snowzone in 08/09!
August 5th, 2008 at 10:40 am
How can you hate on private jets? More power to him. If anybody should be “living the dream” it’s Jake.
August 5th, 2008 at 10:49 am
here, here. Viva la nouveau rollerblading!
August 5th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Funny how not many snow sites are putting this information up, just “Burton launches new site”
Guess you don’t want to piss off the big B that feeds you, but so much for editorial voicing opinion without influence from advertisers

Burton cleans house ever year. This is nothing new. They’ve dropped big names ever summer/fall for years and will keep doing it. Out with the old in with the new.
August 6th, 2008 at 8:54 am
It’s business. That’s how it works.
August 7th, 2008 at 7:23 am
I’ve hear the rumour that Burton dropped Jim Rippey!!!
August 7th, 2008 at 7:59 am
I think Un..Inc was eating into forum…they are both marketed to the same people. I think it was either kill that or forum would die.
August 7th, 2008 at 8:03 am
How do you know it was not mutual and they didn’t want to renew their own contracts, DCP still gets huge press they would have been stupid just to let him go.
August 7th, 2008 at 8:08 am
LOL…don’t forget brushie
August 7th, 2008 at 12:01 pm
It’s the Olympics stupid
August 15th, 2008 at 5:56 pm
Did Burton really drop Brushie or did Ride hand him a bigger check?
August 19th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
they chose not to return well atleast romain told them to stick it
August 21st, 2008 at 2:23 pm
Bigger check. Brushie is still tight with Burton to this day.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:48 pm
I JUST CAN’T BELIEVE HOW FAST SOMETHING YOU THINK IS A FAMELY GO FROM WHAT BURTON USE TO BE AND WHAT BURTON IS NOW!!! JUST LIKE SHOOTING YOURSELF IN THE FOOT!
October 1st, 2008 at 9:20 pm
bring back the brushie & evil twin!
ohh and how could burton demote jp solberg….. have you seen those double corks in it’s snowing somewhere?
