This last weekend the good people at Ski Utah brought a motley crew of journalists out to the land of Brigham Young to catch up on what’s new at the state’s 13 resorts. Tag along for a PBR and Pocket Shot fueled pictorial of our three-day whirlwind romp through the Beehive state.

After being whisked from the airport in the Ski Utah monster van, I was greeted at our Deer Valley condo by Deer Valley and Alta’s marketing teams. This shot was taken moments before I told them I was a snowboarder and their fangs came out. Actually they were super nice but took some pride in letting me know it would be a cold day in hell before either would let us ride.

Ski Utah’s Director of Communications Jessica Kunzer was our head camp counselor. She rocks and plans a mean event. It was seriously like going back to summer camp. With lots of adult refreshments.

Moments before charging off on our first adventure, Snowboarder Magazine’s Tom “T. Bird” Monterosso, Frequency’s Colin Wiseman and Matt Wibby, and Smith Optics’ Gabe Schroder get ready to pile in. Kunzer’s driving made this quite possibly the scariest ride on the agenda.

There was a lot of frolfing going on and Ski Racing Magazine’s Vanessa Pierce was stoked before the first throw. After that it was all kind of downhill as this sport apparently consists primarily of throwing a Frisbee into the woods, searching for it, not finding it, and repeating.

Mountain biking was a little more T. Bird’s speed and Snowbasin has some killer trails.

Next stop on the trip was the Salomon center in Ogden, which kicks Dave & Buster’s ass. Skiing’s Megan Michelson, Wibby, Photographer Grant Gunderson, and SKI’s Kellee Katagis wondering what they’ve gotten themselves into as they gear up for the indoor sky diving. I don’t think Gunderson returned the kneepads he was so stoked on them, which is pretty obvious from this shot.

Wibby showing his skydiving-chic.

The wind tunnel guy getting a good view of my ass. This dude was like Spider Man in there. I was more like Fat Albert.

This grom made the Flowrider in the Salomon Center look super easy.

We had to buy a membership to hang out at the bar at Brighton. It felt pretty cool to be in the club, but the bartender wanted to kick us out shortly after we learned the secret handshake.

Wibby molesting a wapiti after a night on the town.

The next morning we visited the Olympic Park and aired it out. They didn’t have any snowboards so I had to show them what’s up on some planks.

Actually, this is me. In case you couldn’t tell, I don’t ski, but I dig the one-pieces.

Cool runnings bra. We hit 68 mph on the Olympic bobsled vomit comet. I expect my chiropractor bills to hit ten times that.

Gunderson, Wiseman, and I found the hard liquor corner at The Canyons’ wine tasting. Go Utah! Go Wiseman’s shirt graphic!

Bourbon to beef broth back. For some reason Mrs. Dash had a booth at the wine tasting and they looked lonely. Wiseman and some seriously creepy ear sniper making their day.

Susie English, Communications and Sports Marketing Coordinator for The Quiksilver Rossignol Group hanging in the Mountain Center’s conference room. Susie was dropping some hints that Quik may be close to finding a buyer for Rossi. We’ll keep you posted.

Lobsterfest is back and T. Bird and Meghan Grabow were getting things cracking.

Doc was dealing up the cards in a manner that would have gotten him gutted in Vegas. Solitude’s Nick Como and Katagi weren’t complaining though.

Snowbird Director of Public Relations Laura Schaffer joined us at Alta for our second brunch of the day.

Disc golf is pretty awesome… when refreshments are involved.
