Harney Sushi Celebrates Oceanside Opening with Rock & Rolls
OCEANSIDE, CA, July 8, 2008 - Harney Sushi, Old Town San Diego’s long running sushi hot spot, will open a second location in the up-and-coming downtown of Oceanside, California this Wednesday, July 9th. Just two blocks from the pier at 301 Mission Avenue, Harney Sushi will serve as the cornerstone of the area’s dining and entertainment renaissance as the first hip, upscale restaurant to cater to Oceanside’s in-crowd.
On Friday, June 27th, Harney Sushi treated media and VIP guests to a sneak preview of the new Harney Sushi Oceanside with a star studded celebration. Guests drank hot sake and sampled the restaurant’s eclectic mix of famed sushi rolls while local DJ’s spun Harney’s signature beats through the stunning 3,500-square-foot space designed by award-winning firm Bluemotif Architecture. As part of the opening festivities, Harney partnered with several area businesses, including Transworld Media, the Wyndham Hotel, Ezekiel, Billabong, Osiris, and Hoven to benefit the neighboring California Surf Museum. Sponsors donated numerous items, from autographed surfboards and skateboards to the latest action sportswear, which were held at silent auction and raised over $3,000 for the museum. Members of the band Unwritten Law also attended and played a few sets for the audience just after Mayor Jim Wood graciously welcomed Harney Sushi to the community and recognized its presence as a driving force behind the revitalization of the city.
Due to Oceanside’s generous surf conditions, long-running surf competitions, and popular world-class skate parks the opening festivities attracted many of the action sports industry’s notables. In attendance were legendary three-time world champion surfer Tom Curren, well known women’s pro surfers Rochelle Ballard and Megan Abubo, skateboarding celebrities Danny Way and Bob Burnquist, and surfing notables like Pete “PT” Townend, Gary Linden, Steve Pezman and Mike Lambresi.
Harney Sushi Oceanside will officially open to the public on Wednesday, July 9, 2008. From July 11th through July 17th, Harney Sushi Oceanside will donate 5% of its sales to the California Surf Museum. In honor of the fundraising week to benefit the non-profit group, The California Surf Museum will host a Happy Hour event at Harney Sushi Oceanside for members, supporters and the public on Friday, July 11th from 5:30 - 7:30 pm.
Harney Sushi Oceanside conveys the same ultra-hip vibe of Harney’s popular San Diego restaurant but with all new elegance and a modern “green” design. The new Oceanside restaurant features clean contemporary lines paired with a palette of select reusable and recycled materials. Its 3,500-square-foot interior and 425-square-foot patio offer seating for 185 and include both sake and sushi bars, a VIP room, built in DJ booth, 600-gallon fish tank, waterfall backdrop, and an ethanol fireplace.
