Vans Goes to China: Part Four

Editors’ Note: Before you read this, make sure to check out the first three installments of this series: Vans Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3.

The Chinese people may be slightly more eco-friendly with their lack of a NASCAR circuit, and their practical, efficient scooters, but even so there’s a ton of them. Here they are, waiting in line for gas.

I took a break from the Vans party setup and walked over to the Icon X HQ. From left to right: Eli, Grace, Susan, and Joe. When I said “Look busy,” they did heir best, but that’s not Eli’s desk so he just pretended to type on the wood. Thanks for trying, guys. You should come up with some more June events for next year.

Back at the party things were getting under way, and I wasn’t the only one with a beer.

Hipsters. They’re everywhere.

Daphne from Ogilvy, me, and someone whose name eludes me.

Me and Grace Chen from Icon X. When I met her, I did my best:

ME: Nee How Ma. Wo Jiao Adam.
Grace: Yeah, I’m from Poway.

This is Eric. He just moved from Shenzen, where he played host to the Transworld video crew during the filming of And Now.

This is fried duck tongue. It’s a lot crunchier than you’d think…

.

Laundry dude.

Shopping district. Malls in America just don’t take the time to build ornate ceilings these days.

Jenn Kong and Kristy Van Doren preparing to get their shop on.

Pnut looking very Kerouac-ish.

This monkey’s little lap was basically an ashtray, which looked really weird, like he scampered around and collected butts when nobody was looking. Then we realized that the entrance to the garden was right there and you couldn’t bring cigarettes inside. Also I hadn’t slept much the night before.

Pnut and Alva in the garden.

Doug and Jenn in the garden.

Come on, you’d have taken this photo, too.

Fuckin’ tourists.

This was our Dim Sum lunch. Remember when I referred to foreshadowing in the first set of photos? This is why. I’ve confirmed that four of us were wrecked by this meal. The other five I haven’t spoken to yet.

Matt seemed okay with it.

It was Go Skateboarding Day, so we went to some ledges and shredded. I got to help judge a 3-trick line contest. Vans doled out a heap of cash to the winner, he was stoked.

We went DVD shopping.

Flying home.

Airport beers.

Thank you Vans, and thank you China. I’ll be back…

jesus, relax dude, the person selling the pirate(aarrrgghh) dvd’s is a family member of the person manufacturing the vans in the sweatshop and needs to support the family, cause vans are paying there factory workers peanuts.
