OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE - If you’ve been hiding under a rock then maybe you didn’t see that Chris Ward, Chris Davidson, and Hizunome Bettero all blew up in the event making the quarters or better. Bettero, a young flashy surfer out of Brasil, is starting to make a name for himself on the WQS tour and is making a push towards the WCT.

Also making a stab at a comeback, Davo a veteran competitor and benefactor of hanging with Curren during the Search years, had a solid result of 3rd.  This gives Davo much needed points and confidence.  Davo is currently in Durban for another 6 star and has already posted a “perfect ten” in the event.  That leaves us with Wardo.  Sober Ward was surfing with flair and power as only he can.  Taking out good friend Sunny Garcia en route to a runner-up finish which bodes well for Chris heading into the rest of the year.  The surf for the event ranged from big and lumpy to perfect and rippable.
