Former Olympians, a big-wave surfing champion, a pair of brothers, world champion skateboarders and snowboarders, a three-time cancer survivor, a teen surfing phenom, team managers and up-and-coming amateurs: that is a sampling of the personalities and athletes - from Australia, Canada, South Africa, Norway and the US - that comprise the field for the first-ever Ultimate Boarder™ competition.

The only event of its kind in the US, Ultimate Boarder™ is a one-week competition to find the first athlete who can conquer the art of surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding, according to a press release issued Tuesday, March 11. Held from April 13-19, 2008, Ultimate Boarder™ gives amateur riders a chance to shine alongside the pros. The champion will walk away with the first-ever title, a lifetime of bragging rights and a $30,000 first-place prize.

“I’m honored to have such a unique blend of action sports pros and amateurs representing this inaugural event,” Tim Hoover, event founder and CEO, said. “The response from the athletes has been amazing and I can’t wait to see all of them vying for the title. By entering this event, every one of them is carving out their own small piece of history.”

Registration for the event is now closed and the week-long venture will open in Squaw Valley, Calif. with the snowboarding showdown, then move on to Ventura County Fairgrounds “C Street”for surfing, and end with the skate contest.
