26th Annual US Open on NBC March 23

Shaun White, winner of the 2007 US Open Superpipe, nails amplitude and technical trickery.The US Open Snowboarding Championships, part of the Burton Global Open Series, will be held for the 26th consecutive year March 23 in Stratton, Vermont, and broadcast by NBC for the 5th consecutive year from 1:30-3:30 p.m., according to a press release issued Tuesday, March 11 by Burton.

Going into the event, Burton Global Open Series women’s leader Jenny Jones has 37,316 points and Kazushiro Kokubo, the men’s leader, has racked up 35,405. The “Most Valuable” male and female riders will be awarded new Volvo C-30’s after the big air competition and male and female series champions will take away $100,000 - the largest single payout in competitive snowboarding history, according to the release.

The US Open - which will feature four disciplines: slopestyle, halfpipe, big air and junior jam - is part of a six pronged series, with events held in Canada, Europe, Japan, New Zealand and Australia, and set the standards for the all those other global events, according to the Burton release. The event will be watched by an estimated 286 million viewers.
