Like many other resorts around North America, SolVista Resort in Granby, Colorado is cranking up its approach to the already popular summer activity of mountain biking in an effort to keep visitors heading to its slopes and shops year round.
“While mountain biking is not new to resorts’ roster of summer revenue generating activities, the unique part about this particular event is that the resort is not on Forest Service land - which allows them great freedom in course design, which is attractive to big name biking events,” according to Colorado Ski Country USA PR Director Jennifer Rudolph.
Having free reigns on the land has given SolVista an opportunity to be not just another ski resort with mountain biking, but a mountain that sees the two seasons as two different opportunities. Momentum Trails and Sol Vista are in the process of transforming the alpine ski resort at SolVista into a dual threat as a mountain bike mecca in the summer.
This emphasis on summer activities has landed SolVista a Colorado “first” in mountain biking. SolVista will host the 2009 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships on July 16-19. This will be the first time Colorado has hosted the National Championships.
