Mike Carter On Agenda And Board Retailers Association Joining Forces
Last week Agenda and the Board Retailers Assocation announced a mutual endorsement and that the two groups were joining forces. We caught up with Agenda VP of Sales and Marketing Mike Carter to learn more about the partnership.
What does this partnership really mean for Agenda and BRA members? What do they get out of it?
The endorsement means that we will be strategically working together to ensure the independent retailers’ needs are supported to the highest degree possible. This opens up a much more proactive and future-oriented dialogue. Agenda strongly believes in the BRA mission, we also have a vast reach outside of what BRA currently represents with its membership and hope to help attract new and diverse members to their organization.
How did this come into being?
We have had an ongoing friendship with many of the BRA leaders and its been a conversation in the works for the last two years. This was the right time to formalize this relationship and we realize the significance of what this alliance can produce.
How can Agenda support core retailers in this day and age and why is this important for the show?
It’s important as the retailers are the backbone of the show and it’s imperative we’re doing our part to make it as productive as possible in an enjoyable environment.
Agenda specifically supports core retailers in a myriad of different ways including first and foremost providing a diverse brand mix of over 600 of the best companies to the plate. We also in some cases help subsidize core retail travel when needed to assist in making it more cost effective to attend shows. The most important one however is to continue to simply listen and have an open dialogue to ensure we are always proactive to the evolving landscape—the BRA relationship will help with that. If we don’t nurture the independent retailers then our Industry could end up consolidating like many other Industries, and we wouldn’t have much of a culture left at all.
Are exhibitors involved in this at all? How?
Exhibitors are in mind with every decision we make, so yes. Brands will benefit through an increased presence of BRA members and new retail members at the show.
What are the next steps as far as deepening this endorsement/partnership?
Immediate next steps are to take a “deeper dive” into the retailers’ mindsets, maximize the efficiency of each event, and continue to provide the necessary retail tools to facilitate communication with our major exhibiting brands and introductions to new emerging brands. This will be a continuous conversation throughout the year with Agenda, Brands and Retail alike…We also look to the BRA team to continue to innovate and grow their membership as well. This should create new and better solutions for our industry.
