PRESS RELEASE - The Burton US Open in Vail, CO marks the season’s end for all Women’s disciplines, as well as for the Men’s Slopestyle in the World Snowboard Tour 2012/13. The best riders in the world will compete in both Halfpipe and Slopestyle from February 25th to March 2nd, including Iouri Podladtchikov (SUI), Shaun White (USA), Ayumu Hirano (JPN), Mark McMorris (CAN), Peetu Piiroinen (FIN), Ståle Sandbech (NOR), Jamie Anderson (USA), Kelly Clark (USA), Elena Hight (USA), and many more.
Since the Burton US Open is a 6Star event, all riders have the chance to earn 1.000 World Snowboard Tour Points, and influence their Rankings last minute.
On Friday, March 1st and Saturday, March 2nd, the World Snowboard Tour offers a live webcast on www.worldsnowboardtour.com/webcast, broadcasting the Slopestyle and Halfpipe Finals.
For all female riders, the current season ends right here at the US Open, and the Women’s World Snowboard Tour Slopestyle, Halfpipe and Overall Champion will be crowned. Additionally, the men’s season sees another trophy chapter written in Vail. Sebastien Toutant was already crowned World Snowboard Tour Big Air Champion at the Billabong Air & Style in Innsbruck. At the Burton US Open, the season’s Slopestyle winner will be determined and will be awarded with the World Snowboard Tour Slopestyle Champion trophy. Can Seb take another trophy home, like he did at the US Open last year? Seb after the Billabong Air&Style: “I am so happy with my Big Air trophy. Already last year’s Slopestyle title meant a lot to me. My goal is to collect a bunch of them – being the champion feels great!”
After the Burton US Open, there is only one 6Star event left on the calendar: The Arctic Challenge. It is here in Oslo, Norway where the final World Snowboard Tour Champions will be determined – the Men’s Halfpipe Champion and the Men’s Overall Champion. The battle for the overall title promises pure excitement, as 3 time World Snowboard Tour winner Peetu Piiroinen claims he wants his title back from current Champion Ståle Sandbech. Ståle however will not give up that easily, he already lost his Big Air Championship this year by 1.01 point and it motivated him to hang on to the Overall title…
The Arctic Challenge brings the World Snowboard Tour season 2012/13 to a close, and ushers in the new season 2013/14.
