Kookbox’s Joel Tudor And Andrew Blauschild On Sandy Relief Efforts

To Kookbox founders, pro surfer Joel Tudor and  New York native Andrew Blauschild, watching the surf community and New York area go through such pain and devastation following Superstorm Sandy has come as a total shock. Half the reason the two started surf brand Kookbox was their love for NYC, and its surf culture.

According to Blauschild, “We are still under siege in New York, and this week brought yet another storm to the area with bitter 36-degree temperature and light snow. There is still no power, cable, internet, or gasoline, and I have been living by the fire for days. The beach communities are a disaster on Long Island, thousands are cold and homeless, the water is polluted with spilled oil, raw sewage, and debris. We can’t even think about surfing.”

Kookbox’s immediate solution was to create a T-shirt showing love for NYC in hopes of raising whatever money they can as a company to assist in the relief efforts.

A surf buddy, and NYC fire fighter Brian Walsh, who was fighting the fires that destroyed Rockaway as Hurricane Sandy made landfall, sent brief, heart wrenching text messages to Blauschild during those hours, which inspired the shirt.

“Here at Kookbox our hearts bleed NY blood and we need everyone’s help with this disaster on the East Coast,” add Blauschild and Tudor. “We offer this tee shirt in honor of everyone in NY/NJ working together as a family to help those in dire need. 100% of the proceeds will go to the American Red Cross.”
